Just a quick update: surgery went great. My doctor said my uterus size surprised him as it was about the size of a 16 week pregnancy. He was not expecting that. I guess the average size of a normal uterus is 100-200 grams and mine was 400. The surgery took 2 hours because it took him a lot of time to cut everything up. Sorry for the graphic description but that's what they do - cut it all up and then remove it all vaginally. He said he can say pretty confidently that this was ... the source of my back pain and pressure and it was a good call to go ahead and do this surgery. I also had a tilted uterus (which I was aware of prior to surgery) which would explain why I didn't have any 'pregnancy' pooch in my belly.
I did end up having to spend the night in the hospital but I was up and walking the halls at midnight and got my catheter out then as well. I had been up one time before that and had walked just in my room. That first walk was pretty brutal, but the one at midnight was way better. I can see why getting up and moving is highly recommended. It really helps.
I don't have any pain except for the gas pain you can get in your shoulder. Yes, your SHOULDER! They fill you up with CO2 gas and the gas apparently radiates to your shoulder and causes severe pain. They said it's the #1 complaint that women have after this surgery. If it wasn't for the shoulder pain, this would be a much easier ordeal. I'm mainly just really sore and have had no bleeding at all. It just feels like I did about 1,000 sit ups. I'm not taking any pain meds. I'm alternating with Extra Strength Tylenol and Motrin and that works well. They gave me 1 pain pill after surgery but I declined taking any more because they just made me feel loopy and I wanted to be able to get up and walk as much as possible. simple style wedding outfits for plus size ladies
Overall, I feel pretty good, but I do get tired easily. It really was a much easier surgery than I was expecting. Really not that big of a deal at all. I'm grateful I was able to have a robotic procedure because I think my recovery will be much easier.
I had the best care at Lakeside Women's Hospital. Really caring staff and nurses. My night nurse was really sweet and attentive. She came in my room about 10 times through the night to do various things and was just really kind. I am grateful for an overall really pleasant experience.
My employer sent these beautiful flowers and my friend Dawn sent me a really sweet care package full of goodies. Totally unnecessary but much appreciated!
I'll check in later. Thank you all for the good wishes. I'm hoping this is the last of my medical procedures for awhile.
xoxo, Heather
